Exchange (v6.5 Server 2003) (now in SP2) can be run on Windows 2000 Server (Service Pack 4, when first installed) and 32-bit Windows Server 2003, although some new features work only with the latter. Because Windows Server 2003, Exchange Server 2003 has many compatibility modes to allow users to slowly migrate to the new system. This is for large companies with distributed Exchange Server environments who can not afford, downtime and expense that comes with a full migration useful.

One of the new features of Exchange Server 2003 has been recorded, amplified in a disaster, it allows administrators to define the best server. This is, by the server to send and receive e-mail reached when the message from the backup stores are retrieved.

Exchange Server was released in 2007 in late 2006 to business customers in the deployment of Microsoft, has lost contact with new products. It includes new clustering options, support for 64 bit for greater scalability, voice mail integration, better search and support for Web services, better filtering options and NEw Interface Outlook Web Access. Exchange 2007 also dropped support for Exchange 5.50 migrations, routing groups, admin groups, interfaces, Outlook Mobile Access, X.400, and some API, amongst other features.

Significant improvements
The main improvements, as described by Microsoft,

2.Improved Information Workers Access: improved calendaring, unified messaging, mobility, enhanced Internet access
3.Improved IT experience: 64-bit performance and interface control line and scalability simplified user interface, improved provision of role separation, simplified routing
4.Exchange Management Shell: a new line and scripting language for system administration (based on Windows PowerShell). Shell allows users to run all tasks in the graphical user interface of Exchange Server, and other tasks, and can for frequently used or complex tasks into scripts that can be stored, shared re-programmed. Managem BagEnt Shell has more than 375 unique commands to features of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.
5. "Unified Messaging", with the user voice messages, receive e-mails and faxes in the mailbox and allows them to access their mailboxes from cell phones and other mobile devices. Voice commands can be given to control and listen to e-mail by phone (and send essential messages such as "I will come too late")
6.Removed the maximum size. Size of the database is limited by the hardware and the backup window, and maintenance.
7.Increased the maximum number of groups of storage and server databases via email, each at 5 for the Standard Edition (1 each in Exchange Server 2003 Standard) and 50 for each Enterprise Edition (4 groups and 20 databases in Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise).
